There was barely a dry eye in the stadium during the One Love Manchester show, led by Ariana Grande, in tribute to those who lost their lives in the suicide bomb attack in Manchester Arena a week ago. Or, for that matter, among those watching the event from home, where, the day after a terror attack in London, emotions were high.
Highlights included a duet between Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus, well-received pop performances from Justin Bieber and Little Mix, and a special duet of “Don’t Look Back In Anger”, the song sung so beautifully by crowds who attended the Manchester vigil, by Coldplay and Ariana. Former Oasis star Liam Gallagher also made a surprise appearance.
Katy Perry’s set started with a speech about choosing love “even when it’s difficult”, and asking each member of the crowd to make “human contact” by touching the person next to them and telling them that they loved them.
She made a few verbal references to those affected by the tragedy during her performance, but only those eagle-eyed among you would actually notice that she was actually wearing her biggest tribute.
On the back of her dress and around her collar was a sheer material with the faces of the victims of the attack printed on them in a heart shape.
