Wouldn’t we all love to be a princess? There’s the outfits, the handsome husband, the fame, the palaces and, of course, the tiara to think of. However, being a royal may not be all it’s cracked up to be, as Meghan Markle is quickly finding out.

Despite being one of the most famous and privileged people in the world right now, that doesn’t mean she can do *anything* she wants. In fact, there’s a whole list of things she simply cannot do, all under the order of HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

Neutral nails

For starters, Meghan won’t be seen rocking bright red nails or even a hint of glitter throughout her royal life. Oh no. Apparently the Queen thinks dark nail polish is ‘vulgar’, so Meg is destined for a life of neutral and light-coloured shades – something we saw in action on her big day.

No autographs

That’s right, Meghan isn’t even allowed to pick up a pen and sign autographs for her adoring fans, allegedly to avoid any risk of forgery. She has, however, written other peoples’ names down as a special treat for them.

Goodbye voting

She may be an avid feminist who has spoken out about equal rights for women many times throughout her life, but by joining the British Monarchy she has given up her own right to vote in elections in the UK. The royal family are required to remain impartial on political matters, therefore voting is out of the question.

Don’t bare your bare legs

Yep, even Meghan’s bare legs aren’t allowed to be on show – a rule she broke in her first official appearance with Prince Harry where she showed off her sparkling engagement ring, and her perfect pins. Apparently, the Queen requires royals to wear a pair of flesh-coloured tights at the very least, so looks like that’s the last we’ll be seeing of Meg’s bare legs.

Acting is over

She rose to fame as an actress in Suits, but the new Duchess of Sussex won’t be seen on our screens ever again as she’s no longer allowed to pursue her acting passions. Speaking to the BBC, she said: “I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change. It’s a new chapter.” A new chapter indeed, one that prohibits her from having a career in her own right.

Social media and #selfies

When things started to get serious with Prince Harry, Meghan shut down all of her social media accounts, letting the Palace take over her online presence. This is commonplace amongst royalty, all of which are represented by verified accounts on a range of platforms. It also means any candid shots or selfies of gorgeous Meg are out of the question *weeps*.
