For several summer seasons now, the straw bag has been top of the hot list. And you can rest easy for SS18 because the trend doesn’t appear to be going anywhere.
It’s music to our straw bag addict ears, especially with our personal collection creeping scarily close to double figures. Our passion for the cult summertime item has become somewhat an obsession. Luckily, with designers from Ulla Johnson to Zimmerman still swinging them down their runways, our own less pricey collection will not be put to waste.
Designers aside though, Instagram is enough to tell us the humble straw tote is back with a vengeance. If it’s good enough for Instagram…
Why does it keep coming back?
What the stylist Lucas Armitage says: Straw bags are fast becoming the classic summer bag staple. It’s no surprise they are a perennial hit. They make most of us think of happy summer times spent drinking cocktails on the beach, coupled with the fact they are relatively cheap to produce has made them a favourite among designers.
Last year it was all about the personalised and slogan straw totes and they look set to be strong this summer too.
What we say: It exudes chic summery vibes and it’s not try-hard. Plus, this trend is for everyone. Whether you’re a minimal kind of girl who wants her straw bag plain and simple or an all frills woman who thinks the more pom-poms and embroidered elements the better, there’s one for everyone. It really is what you make of it.
Lucas’ top designer pick:
I love the leather straps and flower details the mini Miu Miu embroidered raffia bucket boasts, as it gives it a more wearable appeal, although it might blow the budget:
