Whenever Meghan Markle steps outside her palace doors, the world is watching – quite literally. So it’s no surprise to hear that every outfit choice Meghan makes has an impact, and there’s a new study confirming just that.
From her designer wedding dress to her everyday shirts, it seems women across the UK are desperate to grab a slice of royal style – and so where Meghan shops, the rest of the country follows.
Statistics released by fashion e-tailer Lyst have revealed just how much she’s influenced our purchasing habits since strutting into Prince Harry’s life, and the results are pretty astounding. First of all, it confirms the obvious, that Meghan is almost certain to bring increased interest to a brand once she’s spotted wearing it.
“If Meghan wears a brand, regardless of how well known that label is worldwide, searches for the designer will increase on average 38 per cent in the following week,” says Lyst.
The White Shirt
That’s no more evident than in one of the first appearances she made with Prince Harry back at the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto. Wearing a classic, simple combo of skinny jeans and a crisp white shirt, Lyst notes that sales for the exact shirt by Misha Nonoo “increased by 62 per cent in the week following the Invictus Games” and that “traffic to the Canadian designer’s page has grown by 130 per cent since The Meghan Effect kicked in”. Wowzers.

The Burberry Coat
Then there’s the white coat she wore for their engagement announcement photos. The smart piece by Line the Label was seen by millions across the world, and sold out in just 12 hours. Then in February 2018, just months before their wedding, she made an official appearance in Edinburgh wearing a gorgeous green and navy blue check Burberry coat. We’re sure you can guess what happened next… Yep, searches on Lyst for the same jacket soared by 120 per cent in the days following.
The Wedding Dress
Whatever Meghan wears evidently turns to gold, but what about the brands she’s not even worn yet – but might? On her wedding day back in May, searches for rumoured designers of her marital gown saw big search increases – Erdem by 43 per cent, Roland Mouret by 38 per cent and Ralph & Russo by a mega 82 per cent. Of course, when the name behind her dress was revealed as Claire Waight Keller for Givenchy, searches for ‘Givenchy dress’ surged by 184 per cent.
Oh to be a royal, eh? If only we had the cash for her wardrobe in the first place…
