Each to their own, but those enjoying any sort of food or drink right now may wish to look away. Because Rochelle Humes has taken the rather unusual decision of turning her newborn’s umbilical cord into a piece of art. And it’s turned a few stomachs in the process.
The former Saturdays star, 27, welcomed her second daughter, Valentina Raine, with husband Marvin Humes last week.
Then over the weekend, fans were left somewhat horrified after she posted a framed picture of her cord manipulated to spell the word ‘Love’. It arrived alongside a container of placenta capsules we assume she’s planning on taking.
“After being very curious I took the plunge, so excited to feel the benefits..Thanks so much Danielle,” she captioned the image.
The practice of mothers consuming their own placentas isn’t a new thing, but is one of dubious benefits. Some believe that it provides added nutrients and iron to the body post-birth that would otherwise be thrown away. Others think some iron-rich multivitamins and some oily fish work just as well.
Fans, however, were less than complimentary about the picture, describing it as “old snake skin” and even suggesting it may infuse the Humes’ home with the smell of “rotting flesh”.
Of course there was plenty of support for Rochelle too.
One staunch defender of Team Cord wrote: “Why all the negative comments? It’s her life, her decision and bog all to do with anyone else. Get over it!!!”
Another piped up: “Absolutely love the picture. So wish I had done that with my son’s umbilical cord.”
The Humes also have a three-year-old daughter, Alaia-Mai. And probably very little time to acknowledge or care what people think of their new wall hanging just yet.
