Gawd bless Rihanna and her unwavering sense of humour, even in the midst of social media hyper sensitivity.
The singer decided to mark the Queen’s 91st birthday in a slightly unusual way: superimposing Elizabeth II’s head on her own body in a variety of outrageous outfits.
But a number of RiRi fans were upset that the images were “disrespectful”.
“This is disrespectful and stupid,” one wrote, while another added: “This is SO disrespectful! Do not ask for respect when don’t give any.”
“I’m not English or a Brit,” a third added, “but I find these series of photos disturbing. It’s like doing it with photos of my grandmother. These lack taste whatsoever.”
However, Rihanna had her own army to leap to her defence.
“As a subject of the Queen I fully support this. Bonus for all parties. Party,” one wrote in support.
Another argued: “It’s just a tribute of how the queen is fashionable and still hip to her. So stop taking it the wrong way . It’s like u worship the queen so heavily that u call all sorts Rihanna all sorts of names.”
Now, we actually thought these were genius. And are both British and English. We also know that The Queen has a wicked sense of humour, and excellent taste in fashion, and would probably find these quite funny.
Nevertheless, Rihanna did go some way towards attempting to appease her demonstrators. Check out the captions on these two:
