Piggy bankers, take note – your pound coins will soon be unspendable.
The new 12-sided coin is being rolled out in March, which means the current round version will only be accepted as legal tender until 15 October 2017.
Following that date, you won’t be able to spend them.
It is thought that a number of banks may still accept the old £1 as savings after this date, but only for their own customers. So your best option before then is to slowly start spending or saving your quids so you’re not caught short in the autumn.
Our advice? It sounds like a brilliant excuse to go shopping. Enjoy!
