Fashion designers can find inspiration in many different places, whether it’s the intricate detail of a butterfly’s wings or the opulent glamour of a time long since past. However, this New York Fashion Week saw Berlin-based label Namilia draw inspiration from something a little different: the vagina.

Everything from slip-on stilettos to sleek pencil skirts were adorned with likenesses of female genitalia, with the brand referencing Denis Diderot’s ‘The Indiscreet Jewels’ as a point of inspiration in the show notes — a 1748 novel that tells the story of a sultan whose magic ring that can seemingly make a women’s private parts (aka ‘jewels’) talk.
We’re sure if this collection could talk, it’d have a lot to say!
Alongside the numerous vaginas, design duo Nan Li and Emlia Pfohl adorned their pieces with over-inflated breasts, mermaid-esque tails and giant octopus legs, all hinged on barely-there garments.
The historical element wasn’t missed either, as brocade fabrics and bulbous Elizabethan-style sleeves (shaped like vaginas, of course) took centre stage, while the real show stopper was an exaggerated hoop skirt covered in a whole host of labia.
