Just as Wonder Woman simultaneously smashes box office ratings – AND the patriarchy – DC’s ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ are taking up the diversity baton to introduce a Muslim, female superhero as a regular in season 3.

According to TVLine, Tala Ashe (pictured) will play hacker Zari Adrianna Tomaz, an American, Islamic computer expert with a “wry, combative attitude”. She also comes from the year 2030.

“Zari lives in a world of contradictions,” reads the character description. “Technology has brought about incredible change in her future – too bad human nature hasn’t kept pace. Fear, prejudice, and a lack of care for the planet have forced Zari to become a ‘grey hat hacktivist’.”

As for season 3, the synopsis reads as follows: “Once reunited, the Legends will challenge the Time Bureau’s authority over the timeline and insist that however messy their methods may be, some problems are beyond the Bureau’s capabilities. Some problems can only be fixed by Legends.”

Nope, we’ve no idea what that means either.

Legends of Tomorrow will return to both the UK and the US this autumn.
