Love doesn’t always last forever in showbiz, but there are some celebrity relationships we never thought would bite the dust.

From Bennifer to Brangelina, and Jelena to a spot of ‘conscious uncoupling’, we take a look back at some of showbiz’s most shocking splits.

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber

Never had there been a more idolised teen couple since Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. But after being on and off since 2010, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez eventually called it quits for good in 2014.

During the summer of 2016, the pair were involved in a war of words, both accusing each other on social media of cheating during their relationship. In Nov 2017, the couple rekindled their relationship but after reports that Selena’s family doesn’t approve of Justin, it didn’t last.

Now that Justin is engaged to Hailey Baldwin, it’s safe to Belieb that Jelena is gone for good.

Cheryl and Liam Payne

Cheryl’s instagram status of ‘living in a love bubble’ and Liam referring to Cheryl as his wife made us believe their relationship was going to last. However, after a 2 year whirlwind romance in which their son ‘Bear’ arrived, rumours started to circulate that their relationship was in trouble.  Then earlier this month, the pair posted identical messages on Twitter announcing their split.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes

This break-up was MEGA. Following reports that Tom Cruise’s increasing involvement in the Church of Scientology was causing sparks to fly with his wife Katie Holmes (did she really have to give birth to Suri in silence?), the couple split in 2010. Katie filed for divorce and was granted primary custody of Suri, with Tom keeping his cash and getting visiting rights to their daughter.

Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting

‘Big Bang Theory’ star Kaley Cuoco and professional tennis player Ryan Sweeting tied-the-knot in 2014 following a whirlwind romance. Judging by social media, they were the perfect couple. But just 21 months down the line, Kaley and Ryan stunned fans by announcing their split, insisting it was a “mutual” decision.

Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow

Thanks to Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow, “conscious uncoupling” is now a thing. Well, kinda. The pair coined the bizarre phrase when announcing their separation in 2014. Coldplay frontman Chris and Hollywood actress Gwyneth had been married for 10 years and have two children together. Given that they have “consciously uncoupled” they co-parent and are still on great terms.

Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr

Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr began dating in 2007, before going on to marry and welcome son Flynn. But in 2013, the (rather stunning) couple confirmed their separation. At the time, fans were shocked to learn that they had secretly split several months before announcing their sad news.  Orlando has since dated, then split with, and is now once again dating Katy Perry. We’re wondering if this cute couple will go the distance.

Kris and Bruce Jenner

Kris and Bruce Jenner: The matriarchs of the Kardashian clan. But after ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ fans watched Kris and Bruce grow increasingly infuriated with each other on screen, the couple finally confirmed the end of their 22-year marriage in 2013. Since then, Bruce has transitioned into a woman called Caitlyn.

Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom

Despite walking down the aisle just one month after meeting, it was thought Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom would last the distance. But in December 2016, three years after they separated, Khloe and basketball player Lamar’s divorce was officially granted. The couple’s split was reported to be largely due to Lamar’s spiralling drug habit. He has since got sober after checking himself into rehab.

Khloe has since suffered more heart after her current beau Tristan Thomson was reported to have cheated on Khloe just days before she gave birth to their daughter True.

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner last week filed for divorce. Despite separating in 2015, the news still left us feeling sad. The Hollywood couple, who married in 2005, have three children and are still said to be living together. Ben is reportedly staying in the guest house on their estate and they all hang out together as a family unit.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s break-up was by far the biggest celebrity split of 2016. The couple have six children, but after 12 years together, they announced their shock news. Angelina cited “irreconcilable differences” in divorce papers, but she insists Brad is a “wonderful father”and that they will “always be a family”.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s relationship was always controversial. The couple met on the set of The Rum Diary in 2009 then, following Johnny’s split with partner Vanessa Paradis, they began dating in 2012. An engagement ring soon appeared and they married in 2015. But by May the following year, the couple had split amid reports of restraining orders and alleged assaults. Who knew it would turn so messy for Johnny and Amber?
