Mary Berry is utterly irreplaceable, but it appears a stand-in may well have been found for the all new ‘Great British Bake Off’ set to launch on Channel 4 this year.
Enter Great British Menu stalwart Prue Leith OBE, 76, a restaurateur, critic, writer and campaigner with decades of experience in the food industry.
A spokesperson for Channel 4 refused to confirm or deny the rumour, instead simply offering: “We’ll be announcing the line-up in due course.”
The Sun reports that ‘Bake Off’ bosses see Prue as a “like for like” exchange for Mary, and a great partner for
treacherous Paul Hollywood.
Anyone who has seen Prue in action, however, will know she’s far from a push-over when it comes to poorly laminated pastry and soggy bottoms. There will certainly be no slipping in standards in the ‘Bake Off’ kitchen.
