Love Island Class Of 2017: What The Previous Islanders Think

‘Love Island’ has certainly returned this year with a bang, reaching record viewing figures earlier this week thanks to some rather cringe-yet-steamy antics under the covers.

But as this year’s Islanders battle it out to be crowned the ultimate winners, what do the Class Of 2016 think?

Refreshingly, there hasn’t been much evidence of the green-eyed monster and most of the series two stars are actually championing this year’s contestants.

Check out what they have to say about 2017’s  most talked-about Islanders here…

Camilla Thurlow

Olivia Buckland is a fan of Camilla’s. The 2016 runner-up, who is now engaged to her ‘Love Island’ co-star Alex Bowen, was quick to sing her praises. At first, in response to a fan who had described Camilla as “lovely”, Olivia said: “Maybe the only one being true! We will see! She seems like the only genuine one now!” She also showed support after Camilla split with Jonny Mitchell following a disagreement over feminism. Olivia said: “It’s healthy to have debate & have your own views & interests. Maybe this is just a non negotiable for Camila we all have them

Marcel Somerville

Did you know that Marcel was in Blazin’ Squad?! Malin Andersson is one of many championing the former Squad star and has even hinted that she may have coupled up with him had he been in the 2016 series. Slightly swooning, she told her Twitter followers: “He’s so cute, bless him.” She also posed a smiling face emoji when it was suggested they would make a good pair. Other 2016 stars cheering him on include Scott Thomas, Kady McDermott, Sophie Gradon, Olivia Buckland…the list goes on.

Amber Davies

Within hours of the ‘Love Island’ 2017 launch show, Amber was immediately compared to 2016 star Kady McDermott. This wasn’t then helped when she pinched Kady’s ‘pocket rocket’ nickname. Apparently, that was a step too far. Before even watching that episode, Kady tweeted: “Apparently one [of the girls] has called herself pocket rocket so not off to a good start.” Throwing shade on Amber further, she then retweeted posts including: “I really don’t like that they’re calling amber pocket rocket… that’s @kadymcdermottx thing.” Kady later reassured the world: “I’ll always be the original pocket rocket though.” Glad that’s been cleared up.

Olivia Atwood

Olivia became the centre of attention this week, though not necessarily for the right reason. The 2017 Islander found herself embroiled in quite the barney with Sam and, well, the rest of the villa. Basically, she wanted to make it clear that SHE ended things with Sam and that it had left him devo. 2016 alumni Scott Thomas remarked: “Why is Olivia buzzing off the fact she ended it first? He obviously doesn’t wanna admit he’s hurt! But don’t kick a man while he’s down.”

Jonny Mitchell

Camilla and Jonny’s romance initially captured the hearts of the nation, including 2016’s Zara Holland (the former Miss Great Britain who was stripped of her crown for bonking on ‘Love Island’). Following his arrival in the villa, she gushed: “I think Jonny the new guy is going to do so well!” But then came his shock views on feminism. Adam Maxted (remember him?), did attempt to defend him: “All Jonny wanted to do was pay for some meals on dates,” he tweeted. Hmmm. Yes. *insert rolling eyes emoji here*

Chris Hughes

Katie Salmon is not a fan of Chris. In fact, she’s urged this year’s female stars to challenge his behaviour. Addressing him from the Twittersphere, she said: “Chris you are a 3, babe, on your best day. Get him out. All this ‘he respects women’ on his VT bull s**t. These women need to set him straight.” Is it bad to agree? Thought not.

Montana Brown

Although she featured heavily in the Olivia and Sam spat earlier this week, Montana has had a lot of support from the 2016 cast. Sophie Gradon, especially, is a huge fan. She raved: “I think she’s educated, intelligent & refined & if she forms a bond with any other girls in there I think it will be Camilla! xxx.” Sophie’s comments were instantly retweeted on Montana’s Twitter. Natch.

Love Island continues Mon-Sat, 9pm, ITVBe.
