Love Island’s Camilla Champions Feminism As She Comes To Blows With Jonny

‘Love Island’ stars Camilla Thurlow and Jonny Mitchell have split up following a big disagreement over feminism.

Sparks first began to fly after Jonny told Camilla that he his ex-girlfriend “never paid for a thing” during their five-year relationship – which understandably left her gobsmacked.

Talking about going on a dinner date with a woman, Jonny added: “I would feel almost emasculated if a girl paid.”

Looking pretty stunned, Camilla replied: “Really? God, I’d feel so awkward if I didn’t pay half.”

But Jonny told her: “I wouldn’t let you pay. I’d find it really f***ing awkward.”

He then asked Camilla if she is a “feminist”. She questioned: “Shouldn’t we all be feminists?”

The conversation quickly moved up a gear, with Jonny telling Camilla: “The majority in feminists, real feminists, believe in a slope towards them rather than towards men.”

Putting him right, Camilla replied. “I don’t think it’s that. It’s difficult for men to see there have been several generations which have been preferential towards men and, therefore, to redress the balance, there has to be some active movement towards equality.”

After Jonny asked Camilla if she thought men and women the UK are equal, she told him: “Absolutely not. Really? In the UK? No.”

Jonny then dug an even deeper hole, when he claimed: “I believe women almost have more opportunities.” Ouch.

Camilla, who kissed Jonny earlier this week, was far from impressed and later broke down to her fellow Islanders.

Sobbing, she said: “We have incredibly different views. I’m such an idiot. I’m so stupid. This is exactly what I didn’t want to do, to start liking someone before I got to know them.

“This is what happens when you move to quickly. How could I have been so stupid to kiss someone I don’t know? For me that’s a big deal.”

Speaking in the beach hut, Camilla explained: “I just feel like so many people, men and women, have struggled to move the feminist movement forward and it is about achieving equality, regardless of gender.

“So to me, I feel extremely strongly about defending that.”

The following morning, Camilla pulled Jonny to one side told him they have no future as a couple.

Although the romance may be over, Camilla has received a huge amount of support on social media. One fan tweeted: “This conversation with Jonny and Camilla is infuriating me, I 100% see why Camilla got upset and angry I feel the same #LoveIsland.”

Another, meanwhile, said: “I love how all the others fight over pretty stuff but camilla is fighting because stands up for what she believes in #loveisland.”

Camilla, you get our vote.

Love Island continues, 9pm, Mon – Sun, ITV2.
