Lidl Is Launching A Hangover-Free Prosecco And We Can’t Get Our Hands On It Fast Enough

Yep, you heard that right, Lidl might actually become our supermarket of dreams this Christmas because of this fabulous alcoholic offer – prosecco that leaves you hangover-free the next day? Err, why has no one invented this sooner?

We all know the drill. Christmas time is coming and glasses of the fizzy stuff will be on hand at every festive event to celebrate the occasion. The downside is the next morning facing that dreaded hangover. No matter what you do – filling your face with carbs before drinking, limiting yourself to just a few glasses – nothing seems to work to prevent that fuzzy prosecco head.

That is, until now. On Thursday 12 October, supermarket chain Lidl will be selling bottles of fizz that claim to leave you with little or no hangover after gulping down a few glasses. Is this for real?

The bottle of bubbles will be priced at £7.99 and are also organic, going by the name of Organic Prosecco Spumante. Sounds pretty decent to us. And the fancy bit – this bubbly is made of organic grapes that are grown in cellars that are cleaned using only recycled water. The vineyards are also managed without the use of any herbicides, pesticides, insecticides and fertilisers too – so it’s decent quality fizz AND cheap!

How on earth does this no-hangover bit work? Here’s all the science stuff:

Richard Bampfield, Lidl’s wine Master of Wine (basically a wine guru) explains that this new brand of prosecco contains much less sulphate preservatives. They help keep wine tasting better for longer and are basically the horrible bits that are completely responsible for our hangovers of death. Damn you, sulphates!

Richard commented, “We’ve all had that shocking wine hangover. This is sometimes attributed to the sulphite preservatives used in wine to keep them fresher for longer.

“Generally, organic wine producers use a lower level of sulphites in the production process, which means they are less likely to contribute to hangovers.

“So if you don’t react well to sulphites you could be saying good riddance to hangovers with Lidl’s Organic Prosecco Spumante.”

Hoorah! So we know what we’ll be drinking from now on… Cheers!
