Get ready to file this under ‘news we really, totally, definitely weren’t expecting today’, as the latest partner in Ikea’s collaboration efforts has been revealed as singing and fashion superstar, Solange. We’ll just let that sink in for a moment…
However, the collab isn’t with Solange directly, but with her cultural innovation brand Saint Heron, which champions art and creativity from new and emerging artists. A tweet last week revealed the partnership, reading “IKEA x SAINT HERON, Objects, Space, Architecture”.

According to Saint Heron’s website, the new collection will focus on “exploring architectural and design objects with multifunctional use”, and it looks like that’s all the info we’re getting at the mo.
An additional statement from Marcus Engman, the head of design at Ikea Range and Supply, added a bit more detail, saying: “At IKEA we are curious about the creative space in between architecture, design, art, and music and how that could come alive in the homes of the many people. This is what we want to explore together with Saint Heron.”

So, what can we expect from this somewhat unlikely collaboration? Right now, we really don’t know.
But the clues so far point to design-led multifunction objects, so at least anything you buy will useful in more than one way, as well as uber trendy. Can you imagine what a coffee table designed by Solange would look like? Or how about a chair? Or even a sofa bed? We don’t know about you, but we’re excited just at the thought of it!
Plus, a trip to IKEA to pick up a piece of Solange’s style AND a plateful of meatballs in the same day has to be the best day ever.
The release date of the collab is also a mystery right now, but we’d expect it to hit shelves in the next six months, fingers crossed.
