It has easily the most underrated of all the Disney soundtracks but Hercules fans will be able to sing along to classics like “Zero To Hero” and “I Won’t Say I’m In Love” when it finally hits the stage.
The man behind the tunes, Alan Menken, has confirmed that he is working on a theatre production of the hit animated movie that came out back in 1997 and remains one of the highlights of our childhoods.
“I have a very strong belief that Hercules is going to have a moment that will surprise people,” he told Californian newspaper The Orange County Register. “That’s why I’m working on a stage version of Hercules.”
The gospel music of Hercules will surely prove appealing to theatregoers and, if The Lion King and Aladdin are anything to go by, the Disney draw will get bums on seats, too.
Before we get too excited, no curtains up date has been confirmed yet, and Menken’s manager Rick Kunis has said that he is currently busy working on building up enough interest to move things forward.
Still, this is the glimmer of hope we needed. Come on Herc, work your superhuman magic.
