As Cynthia Nixon gets her political campaign off to a flying start, the Sex And The City actress has officially announced she’s running for Governor of New York.
I’d say we’re a bit shocked, but this isn’t the first time an actor or actress has crossed over from on-screen stardom into politics.
Think back to Arnold Schwarzenegger… and dare we say it – Donald Trump.
After weeks of speculation that Cynthia was using her public platform for the greater good, she took to Twitter to announce her news.
Alongside a video of her on the road on her campaign, she wrote, “I love New York, and today I’m announcing my candidacy for governor.”

During the tweeted video, she expressed how much she “never wanted to live anywhere else” and believes their “leaders are letting [them] down”.
Listing key focus areas of her campaign, she mentioned healthcare, mass incarceration as well as fixing the New York subway.
Cynthia has already demonstrated she’s shifting away from celebrity fame into a more serious career direction by updating her Twitter profile description.
When she first joined Twitter late last year, her bio read: “Emmy, Tony and Grammy Award winning actress.”
It now reads: “Cynthia Nixon is a lifelong New Yorker, actor, and progressive advocate who is running for governor to fight for a better, more fair New York.”
Recent tweets also show her support for the NYC women’s march that took place in January.
It seems this new political direction is more in line with her SATC’s character than ever before.
During the HBO series, Cynthia was known for her portrayal of Miranda Hobbes, the high-flying New York lawyer.
We’re thinking Cynthia’s campaign for NYC governor is great news because it means there’ll be another female in a high political position if she wins – and let’s face it; we need more female representation in those roles BIG time.
