Top tips to sweat-proof your make-up

The heatwave game is going strong in the UK and while we’re all basking in the sun, our beautifully made up faces are melting. While we don’t like to complain (please don’t leave us beloved sunshine), when we spend precious time applying make-up products it’s really quite annoying to see it slide literally straight off of our faces.

But we’ve got you covered. We’ve spoken to experts and gathered their top tips on how to sweat-proof your make-up.

Hello humidity-proof routine.

Don’t over wash your face

LloydsPharmacy pharmacist Kate Taylor says: “For those who find they are experiencing excess shine in the heat, don’t be tempted to over wash your face as it will only stimulate more oil production. Instead, try keeping some blotting papers or a mattifyer handy.”

Don’t over wash your face – yes that is a thing apparently!

Use the right moisturiser

Pharmacist Kate Taylor says: “You may find that you need to change your moisturiser during the summer season, depending on the type of skin you have. For example, people with oily skin may find that their usual moisturiser or make-up feels sticky or heavy in summer months. Switching to a lighter version will be more comfortable and help to avoid looking sweaty or shiny.”

Try Nivea Daily Essentials Light Moisturising Day Cream SPF 15 to keep it light and less sticky in the heat.

If you’re anything like us, on fleek eyebrows are one of the most key components to your beauty regime, so make sure they’re set to stay in place.

Choose an eyebrow pencil with staying power

Choose an eyebrow pencil that will have staying game says MUA Tabby Casto, London make-up artist: “I’d recommend Brow Pomade which sculpts brows into shape (it’s water and humidity proof) so a great little holiday essential.”

Her top pick is Eylure’s Brow Pomade which shapes and sculpts brows.

Make your brows semi-permanent with a tint

You could choose a DIY brow tint that will give you a salon-perfect look that won’t be going anywhere when the sun comes out to play.

Beauty influencer Danny Defreitas swears by Colorsport’s 30 Day Brow Tint and shows you how to use it here.

Prime and prep

A primer is one of the most important things to apply to ensure your foundation won’t come off in the heat.

Cambridge Make-up artist Kerry Curl says: “The sun can play havoc with our makeup routine, and there’s nothing more disappointing than watching all your time and effort that morning melting away from your face.

“So for staying power use a magnifying primer over your T-zone and eyelids – I like Kiko Skin Trainer CC Blur..

Use matte and waterproof products on your eyes

Make-up artist Kelly Curl says: “Apply a matte-based concealer along with a matte based eyeshadow for extra staying power.

“Then apply a waterproof liquid liner along the top of your lash line, it will stay on far better than any pencil will in the heat.
She recommends Charlotte Tilbury The Feline Flick Eyeliner, which also gives excellent control through the lash line.

Seal it

Make-up artist Kelly Curl says: “Use a mattifying powder to sweat-proof your make-up. It will set under the eyes and the T-zone in place, then follow it through with a Mattifying face spritz, I like the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray.
