Thing is, however you feel about Ed Sheeran’s music, there is almost no evidence to suggest the award-winning singer/songwriter is anything other than a really nice guy. Which makes his recent revelation all the more heartbreaking.
Sheeran has admitted that he stopped using Twitter after the endless trolling became too much for him.
Speaking to The Sun, he said: “There’s nothing but people saying mean things. One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it. The head-f**k for me has been trying to work out why people dislike me so much.”
He went on to give an example of a comment he’d made about Lady Gaga that he claims had been misconstrued by the press. Cue scores of little Monsters flooding his notifications for days to come.
“Lady Gaga’s fanbase read an interview in which they assumed I was talking about her and they all f**king hate. And it wasn’t anything to do with that at all.
“So I think Twitter gets on a massive steam roll of assuming things and then you get in the shit.”
Now, Ed’s more of an Instagram kinda guy, and for the foreseeable future, he will only be using his Twitter feed to post links to his Instagram account.
It just goes to show, if Ed Sheeran – pop’s most popular man – gets attacked this badly, what does that mean for the rest of us?
