So our hearts are beating really fast right now because a) there’s only ONE DAY to go until Ed Sheeran’s new album and b) he’s promised us something that quite frankly we’ll believe when we hear it.

Everyone’s favourite man with a guitar drops his third record ÷  (Divide) on Friday 3 March and apparently there’s a song on there that’s “definitely better” than “Thinking Out Loud”.

“Thinking Out Loud”, the soundtrack to a thousand weddings and millions of bus journeys spent gazing out of the window in a romantic daydream (guilty), is 26-year-old Ed’s biggest hit to date and bagged him a Grammy in 2014. But, if his claims are well-founded, it’s about to be well and truly upstaged.

“It’s not like ‘Thinking Out Loud’ will be the peak of my career,” he told the BBC. “It’s definitely happened on this album. There’s definitely one that’s better.”

So far we’ve been blessed with two new tracks from ÷, the festival-friendly scream-your-lungs-out “Castle On The Hill” about Ed’s experiences growing up in Suffolk and the sexier club hit “Shape Of You”. Talk about showing off your range. The tracklist is already out there for the analysing too, but it’s number five, “Perfect” that we’re expecting to see at number one on the Spotify streaming chart come tomorrow morning.

“Perfect” is the song Ed is referring to and – get the tissues ready – it’s about “being in love” with his “beautiful and smart” girlfriend Cherry Seaborn, who he met at school and started dating in 2015.

Ed’s pal Taylor Swift threw the loved-up pair a party to celebrate their 1-year anniversary last July, calling it a ‘Ed-Iver-Cherry’. So, expect many of the other tracks to be influenced by his relationship too, and look forward to plenty more gazing-out-of-the-window bus journeys.
