The new trailer for Stephen King’s IT has dropped…and it is utterly terrifying!
Based on the 1986 horror novel, IT – which hits the big screen later this year – is about an eponymous being that terrorises seven children living in a small town in Maine, America.
Disguising IT-self as a killer clown called Pennywise, whose main accessory is a red balloon, IT is able to lure in unsuspecting kids and the trailer shows him in action.
The opening sequence is of a little boy, named in the book as George, who loses his paper boat down a drain during a heavy storm. While looking for his homemade toy, IT makes a frightening first appearance.
Prepare to jump out of your seat both then and many, many more times.
Director Andrés Muschietti says: “It’s established that Pennywise takes the shape of your worst fear.
“He doesn’t have a steady behaviour, he doesn’t expose how he thinks, and that’s what makes him really unpredictable.
“And because no knows what he’ll do next or how, the space between appearances – with the occasional red balloon creepily floating by – becomes a feeling of dread that grows in people’s minds.”
The teaser was released by Warner Bros and New Line Cinemas on Wednesday (29 March) and IT is already being tipped as one of 2017’s biggest box office hitters, premiering in September.
Like Stephen King’s book, which was a bestseller, IT will be a two-parter. The first instalment will follow the lives of the seven children in 1957 and the second will see them 30 years on, showing how their experiences with IT have affected their lives.
The movie has a pretty stellar cast too, with Bill Skarsgard playing the part of Pennywise and, among the child actors, ‘Stranger Things” Finn Wolfhard.
If horror is your bag, then this will definitely be the film for you. If watching the trailer gives you nightmares, probs best to steer clear.
Hey, the next Lego movie is out in September too, so don’t fret!
