‘Countdown’ mathematician Rachel Riley was left a little red-faced this week after being asked to spell out a rather rude word during the gameshow.

Rachel, 31, was working on the Channel 4 programme when two contestants put together the letters on the board to spell both ‘squirt’ and ‘squire’.

However, it was then suggested by lexicon-expert Susie Dent that the eight-lettered word ‘squirter’ could have been a top points scorer.

Struggling to keep a straight face, Rachel duly spelt out it out on the board. Awks or what?

Viewers were quick to share their amusement on social media, with one tweeting: “Such filth!” Another joked: “You owe me a mouthful of coffee and a new monitor!”

Joining in with the bants, Rachel later posted a screenshot of herself stood alongside ‘squirter’, adding: “Nothing to see here #waterpistols.”

Rachel, who took part in the 2013 series of BBC One’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, is no stranger to spelling out some rather unfortunate and risqué words on ‘Countdown’.

In 2015, she came face-to-face with ‘erection’ while at the board’s helm, and has also been confronted by a ‘vibrator’ and a ‘phallus’.

It’s all in a day’s work for Rach though.
