It was a dramatic Oscars ceremony for several reasons, not least because of this particularly embarrassing awards slip-up.

And the red carpet was no different. Actresses opted for optimum glamour, theatrical structures and romantic ruffles, bold red lips and smoky eye make-up.

Here is our pick of the best dressed ladies on the red carpet. The men? Well they just wear suits, so that’s a bit boring, but honorable mentions go to Ryan Gosling, John Legend and the seriously stunning Mahershala Ali.

As for the worst dressed? We don’t do that sort of thing over on Ladies Bitz. We celebrate the women we admire, not put them down, and we encourage you to do the same.

We can’t get over how gorgeous Hailee Steinfeld looks in this romantic floral creation by Ralph & Russo. Well done, that stylist.

We love the luxurious drama of this structured ruffle dress by Oscar de la Renta on last year’s Best Actress winner, Brie Larson.

Best Actress winner Stone looked every inch the Hollywood star in this flapper-style golden creation by Givenchy.

Lion star Nicole Kidman looked practically ethereal in this nude and jewel-embellished Armani Privé gown, which she paired with a striking red lipstick, and flesh-toned accessories.

Hidden Figures actress Monae’s look might be Marmite to some, but we love it! It almost looks as though a flock of birds are flying over her chest in this theatrical puff-ball Elie Saab dress.

Emma Roberts

Monotone black and white lace can go horribly wrong, but Emma Roberts’ vintage Armani gown flattered her fair skin tone and petite frame.

John Legend raved about his wife looking like “a Goddess” on the Oscars red carpet in this Zuhair Murad number. And we’re inclined to agree with him. She really is immune to faux pas, isn’t she?

Ruth Negga

Beautiful Ruth committed the cardinal awards show sin of wearing red on the red carpet. Ever the fashion anomaly, however, she pulled it off with some quirky vintage accessorizing and haunting eye make-up.
