Otherwise known as that event Rihanna went to wearing noting but a thong and a sheer, glittery piece of material that time, the CFDA Fashion Awards is well known for its impeccable and daring red carpet style.

This year, at the event dubbed the ‘Fashion Oscars’, it was no less impressive.

While Raf Simons picked up Womenswear and Menswear designer for his turn at the Calvin Klein helm, and Rick Owens – he of penis hole jumper fame – was given a lifetime achievement award, Bella and Gigi Hadid were turning heads in retro threads.

Here’s our pick of the best looks from the evening – including our ever-increasing fashion crush on Board Of Director’s Tribute winner, Janelle Monae.

How is she even real? The model looked so streamlined last night, we half-expected her to malfunction on the red carpet and start walking repeatedly into the wall behind her. Love this hot pink blazer dress by Off-White on her – and that incredible Lois Lane bob, too.

How fabulously ‘Dynasty’ is this? Gigi opted for full-on diva glamour in this floor-length white suit and dress coat by The Row.

Those stripes. Those boots. They’re just so cool, aren’t they? They are.

Queen of the deconstruction trend does it again with this monochrome look by Christian Siriano.

Have to say, we love a bit of sartorial gender clashing, and the Canadian model’s masculine T-shirt and lace skirt combination is totally doing it for us.

Nicole Kidman

Just the epitome of Hollywood chic. Nicole Kidman threw the fashion rule book out the window and wore this stunning Oscar de la Renta velvet dress despite it being summer.

As ever, glowing in a metallic, thigh split Jason Wu gown. She can’t put a foot wrong.
