Including us, to be honest with you. The dramatic TV formula, which swung between a verbal combat with Jeremy Paxman – who was in maximum “Isn’t it true…” leading question mode – and facing the wrath of the studio audience lent the debate between Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn a sort of Gladiator-style amphitheatre feel.

Depending on who you ask, Corbyn’s calm and collected approach to the IRA-obsessed interrogation far outshone Theresa May’s floundering over Brexit. She used the phrase “No deal is better than a bad deal” more times than we’ve eaten hot dinners this week, and he managed to squeeze “social justice” in at every perceivable angle.
