If, like us, you basically communicate with your friends purely through Emojis, then you’re going to be very happy with today’s news. Apple has just released a software update for the iPhone, which includes… wait for it… a staggering 240 brand new Emojis!
Some much-requested additions have finally made it in, including a giraffe, vampire and gender neutral faces, as well as a few randoms — there’s a hedgehog, orange heart, broccoli, pretzel and several mountain climbers, because why not?
Harry Potter fans will also be pleased, as a range of male and female wizards is now available, as will Lord of The Rings fans when they see the male and female Legolas-esque characters on offer. Guys with beards can finally have their Emoji moment too, as a hairy-faced human has joined the lineup, while the *mind blown* icon is about to become one of our new most used for sure.
However, the greatest additions of all are the mermaid (at last!), which comes in a range of skin tones and a male version, the breastfeeding woman and the woman wearing a hijab. But where’s the redhead Emoji people have been calling out for? Looks like we’ll have to wait for the next update to see if that one materialises…
All you need to do to get all these new icons is update your iPhone software to iOS 11.1, which contains the usual other small updates, and voila, you should have 240 new Emojis at your disposable. Go forth, WhatsApp and enjoy!
As for Android users, as Google and Apple create their own separate Emojis, you may have to wait a little longer for your phone to catch up.
