There’s nothing like a good scroll through Instagram for a spot of wanderlust when we can’t be bothered to get up and actually go somewhere — even if that ‘somewhere’ is only two hours away by train.

Britain boasts some pretty stunning cities, all the way from its southern capital to the heart of Scotland, meaning we’re beyond spoilt when it comes to the number of gorgeous urban environments on offer. Plus, new research shows that when we do actually make the effort to pay one or two a visit, we’re dab hands at Insta-bragging the whole experience.

Holiday lettings search engine Holidu has analysed posts from the platform, revealing precisely where in the UK Instagram fans can’t help but snap and share their view. But looking at the top ten, it’s easy to see why…

It’s official: London is more popular than Paris, with over 80 million uses of #london cementing it as one of Europe’s top 10 most Intsagrammed locations.

2. Manchester
Trendy Manchester has been tagged in 7.7 million Instagram posts to date, pushing it just ahead of Liverpool to swipe the number two spot.

3. Liverpool
This Scouse city has gorgeous architecture and football fans to thank for its popularity, with around 5.6 million uses of #liverpool landing on Instagram.

4. Edinburgh
Scotland’s tourist hotspot is a ‘grammers dream, with plenty of history and culture to capture. 4.7 million people already have.

5. Brighton
Seaside splendour draws visitors to this coastal destination, with over 3.7 million #brighton lovers sharing their experiences.

6. Glasgow
Students and tourists alike love this Scottish city — the second to make the top 10 — with over 3.6 million people slapping #glasgow on their posts.

7. Birmingham
With six universities and plenty of nightlife to keep this city buzzing, Birmingham’s been tagged by visitors a whopping 3.2 million times.

8. Bristol
Londoners are now heading Bristol’s way thanks to its lower cost of living and artsy vibe, so there’s no wonder it’s been ‘grammed 2.9 million times.

9. Leeds
This Northern city has been tagged 2.7 million times, nearly half of which are snapshots from summer’s famous Leeds Festival.

10. York
Walled city York features in 2.4 million posts, with its medieval architecture and cutesy English feel making it prime Insta material.

Just missing out on the top ten were the likes of Oxford, Cardiff and Cambridge, all of which come with their own Insta-worthy spots.

So there you have it, proof that the cities of the UK really are a feast for budding photographers, or just those who love nothing more than a good Boomerang.
