Liam Payne & Cheryl’s Baby Name Isn’t THAT Odd…Check These Out

Cheryl and Liam Payne

Liam Payne last week confirmed that he and girlfriend Cheryl have named their newborn son Bear.

News of his name caused quite a stir and even adventurer and ‘The Island’ host Bear Grylls offered them a nod for choosing such an unusual moniker.

But while the world gave their two pence worth on the choice, it got us thinking about all the really random names celebrities have named their offspring.

We mean, did you ever sit next to an Apple at school? No, thought not.

David and Victoria Beckham

David and Victoria Beckham are officially The King and Queen Of Quirky Baby Names. The couple first raised eyebrows when they called their eldest child after the place in which he was conceived, Brooklyn. At least it wasn’t Blackpool. They have since continued their reign with Romeo, Cruz and Harper Seven.

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz

In the noughties, Ashlee Simpson was living in the shadow of her big sister Jessica. But the US singer certainly grabbed headlines when she and her now ex-husband Pete Wentz had their first child. The couple called their son Bronx Mowgli. Ashlee later admitted that Mowgli did in fact come from The Jungle Book, but there has been little explanation for Bronx.

Geri Halliwell and Sacha Gervasi

There’s no guessing who Geri Horner’s idol was when she was growing up. When the former Spice Girl gave birth to her first child in 2006, she called her Bluebell Madonna. Geri has since had a second baby, a son with millionaire husband Christian Horner, and they opted for something a little less, shall we say, ‘pop’. The couple called their boy Montague George Hector Horner.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

Kim-Ye’s first pregnancy went on for an age. Didn’t we – and Kim – know it. So the buzz when the couple’s first child finally arrived was huge and we all waited to hear what they would call their daughter. Would it begin with a ‘K’? Gosh no, it was way more left field than that. In fact, it was North West.

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden

Having given birth to a Harlow, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden upped the stakes when their second child was born. The couple called him Sparrow James Midnight. Nicole later admitted that she was inspired by Johnny Depp’s character in Pirates Of The Caribbean. Yup, bonkers Captain Jack Sparrow.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban decided to name their daughter Sunday Rose back in 2008. Cute, although the couple received a fair bit of ribbing following their announcement. It was suggested by some that, if said quickly enough, the moniker could be mistaken for Sunday Roast…

Beyonce And Jay Z

When Beyonce and Jay Z welcomed their first child, the world held its breath. However, no one quite expected Blue Ivy. In fact, there was so much confusion over them calling her after a primary colour, some initial reports assumed the tot’s name was actually Ivy Blue. Queen Bey later explained their reasoning, sharing an excerpt from Rebecca SoInit’s 2005 novel ‘A Field Guide to Getting Lost’. It describes blue as “giving us the beauty of the world”. Bookies are already taking bets that the pregnant star and Jay Z will call their twins Red and Green.

Chris Martin And Gwyneth Paltrow

Besotted parents often described their children as ‘the apple of their eye’, but not many actually CALL their child that. Bucking the trend for an average moniker, Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow picked Apple Blythe Alison Martin for their firstborn back in 2004. Bets were on for another name straight out of the fruit bowl when Gwyn fell pregnant less than two years later. But alas, the couple shunned Grape, Banana and Orange for the Biblical name Moses.
